We follow the Common Core Standards for Grade 5 for writing.
Some of our great writing projects are.....
Poetry Unit - The students read poetry and write all kinds of poems, following a theme of their
choice.
Persuasive Essay - The students will be writing an essay in the point of view of a Loyalist or a
Patriot.
Changemakers Unit - The students research a "changemaker" in U.S. history.
We also write informative pieces and writing from texts we read.
Personal Narratives, Non-Fiction Writing and Realistic Fiction Stories are other types of writing
we will work on this year.
